Operational Guidelines for Reviewing Applications to Delay Public Disclosure of Dissertations and Theses

In accordance with Article 16 of the Degree Conferral Act and the Copyright Act, public disclosure of a degree thesis is the default principle, and non-disclosure is an exception. Graduate students who need to delay thesis publication due to confidentiality, patent filing, or statutory restrictions must refer to and comply with these guidelines.

Key Operational Summary

  • Timeline: Applications must be submitted prior to the degree oral defense and reviewed during the examination by the Review Committee.
  • Eligible Grounds: Strictly limited to confidential content, patent applications (patent number or proof required), or legal prohibitions.
  • Maximum Duration: Each application is limited to a maximum delay of 5 years for both digital full texts and physical copies. Subsequent extensions require sequential re-application.
