Operation Directions Governing the Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarships

These Directions have been formulated by the Ministry of Education to encourage foreign individuals to come to Taiwan to study Mandarin Chinese, become aware of Taiwanese culture and society, and increase interactions and mutual understanding between Taiwan and the international community.

Key Operational Summary

  • Monthly Stipend: Provides a monthly living allowance of NTD 28,000 (applicable from the 2025 academic year onwards, including summer courses).
  • Scholarship Durations: Available for a 2-month summer course (in June/July or July/August), or regular study periods of 3, 6, 9 months, or 1 year.
  • Course Hours & Attendance: Recipients must take at least 15 hours of required language classes each week. Missing 12 hours or more of required classes in a single month will lead to a 1-month stipend suspension.
  • TOCFL & Academic Standards: Recipients with an award period of 9 months or longer must take the TOCFL test at Band B Level 3 or higher and submit the score certificate; failure to do so results in a 1-month stipend suspension. For durations of 6 months or longer, an average academic mark below 80 will result in suspension or revocation.
